I love this video of Kevin Jorgeson, Matt Segal and Alex Honnold at british grit. To go out and climb with a bunch of friends for a couple weeks sounds amazing, especially now during crunch week.
As I lay there in the dark, I thought about the woman who was here last night. Her face, flawless under the warm scent of the flickering incandescent light, lingers in my memories clear as the glass of water on the nightstand. Her lips, slightly red from the subtle coat hours before dinner, looked as moist as ever, as if she had just delighted herself with a bite of the juiciest apple fitting only of Snow White. The condensation from the shower wafts across, carrying with it the sent of a basket of tropical flowers.
I am jolted awake as the lights stun me without warning. The rough sound of waterfalls begin to cut through the silence, and the images of a warm night are ripped away from me, reality taking its stead. Day after day, I can not escape. The torturous roar in the background laughs as I am slowly suffocating. This isn’t what I signed up for; this isn’t how it’s supposed to be. That is how everyone acts in this same situation. Smothered, I have no choice. I never had a choice in the first place. All I can do is try to recall those images. The warm mist, glistening with each pass across the light. The basket of gentle gardenias, lifting away my mind, draping me with its comforting lullaby. It’s the same every day. I can’t escape as I am forced into the darkness again. Two minutes seems like forever, but I am returned to my bed, and the lights, again, are removed from my world.
only person to ever free solo the NW face of halfdome. 2000+ ft of sheer face. i wonder how much zen this guy possesses.
Here’s a vid of him climbing at indian creek, utah.
Today my climber friend from india (getting his PhD here) invited a bunch of us to his home to enjoy an indian feast cooked by his parents visiting from india. His family was awesome and super generous. I’ve never had such good indian food in my life; just thinking about it makes me hungry. there was alot of ‘home style’ dishes that are never seen in restaurants because they are apparently considered too common, but because they aren’t in restaurants, i’ve never had them.
I wish i remembered the names to all the different dishes and drinks they made; man, was it tasty.
Yesterday I wanted to buy a coconut from Ralph’s. Although Von’s (aka safeway) has sentimental value to me due to my close proximity to one back in norcal, I much prefer Ralph’s to Von’s after they put in those robot cashiers. No more waiting in lines of 20+ people at that outdated Von’s. The future is now.
However, the future failed me yesterday. All i wanted was to buy a coconut, and with coconut in hand, my target acquired and mission almost accomplished, i stroll to the checkout stations all content. for some reason, all of san diego wanted to do their grocery shopping yesterday, and lines (at least 20 ppl per line with 4 lanes open) of people were piled up along each of the registers. “Ha,” i said to myself as i continued towards the checkout machines of the future. 4 of the 6 machines were out of commission and like the boring registers, and there was a massive line (if not longer than the registers) for the self checkout. Disappointed, i put my coconut back and walked out of the store.
I then went to CVS and bought an arizona green tea. All was well.
